A Response To 'Christian' Views On Secular Music

Is there such thing as music that Christians shouldn’t listen to? Should we be dismissive of music with either explicit language or sexual, violent or substance oriented themes? Should anyone even be telling anyone else what they can and can’t listen to? These are questions that are thrown around a lot in Christian circles, and given what I do here on this blog and how that overlaps with my job working for the church, I thought I would share my thoughts on this topic. I’ll say this at the outset so that we’re on the same page – I think any attempt to dictate what people should and shouldn’t listen to is stupid and disrespectful on a fundamental level. I’ll go into detail about why I think that later on, but for now here are some thoughts I have on some of the “Christian” opinions I come across pretty regularly. So it's been a while...

Hi friends, It’s been a while between drinks. In fact, my last post was uploaded about 18 months ago. That’s a long time, and a lot can happen in eighteen months. In fact, a lot has happened in 18 months. So much has happened, in fact, that to just come back to this blog and continue on without addressing any of it would be disingenuous to all the people that I know enjoyed my blog while it was active (shout outs to the OGs). To be blunt and to the point, I reached a stage at which my mental health dictated that I start to remove things from my life to leave room for looking after myself. This blog was one of them. I am back in shape mentally after a long time of struggling hard, and looking back on my experiences and taking stock of where I am headed next, I feel like it is important to share some things in an attempt to create something meaningful out of what was easily the worst and most difficult six months of my life.
